Snow condition
I was surprised how much snow there already is on the Gemsstock. But the bad weather in the south has also sent some snow clouds over the Gotthard, which are emptying over the Gemsstock. Today there was a real snowstorm on the summit. That's why you can already venture off-piste in the upper section of the Gemsstock summit. I'd say there's enough snow from the summit at around 500 meters altitude. Things are less exciting on the Gurschenalp. The foehn and warm temperatures have already melted a lot of the snow there. Things are still going reasonably well on the slopes. But it's definitely more fun at the top.
Snow quality
Powder snow has fallen in the upper section. Unfortunately with a foehn. And that's why the whole thing is quite windswept. The snow between Gurschenalp and Gemsstock is easy to ski. As described above, the snow on the Gurschenalp is quite heavy.
Risks
It was windy the last few days. The top layer was not connected to the base. I've seen a few slides - once the fog has cleared.
Overall impression
Hui at the top, pooh at the bottom. At the top, between Gurschenalp and Gemsstock, you can have fun - on and off the slopes. I was very surprised at the amount of snow there already is. At the bottom, on the Gurschenalp, it's not really worth skiing in my opinion. But the upper section is definitely worth a trip to Andermatt.
