So Andermatt has already been spoiled this winter. It's impressive how much snow there already is down in the village. At the top, a good 50 centimetres of fresh snow have been added. There are practically no more rocks to worry about.
Snow quality
I would have liked the same powder for Christmas. Now the delivery has arrived a few days earlier. In some exposed places you could feel that the snow had fallen under the influence of the wind. But 95 percent of the time it was just perfect.
Risks
Only the lower section was open today due to wind and avalanche danger. At the top they were blasting like crazy. And it was impressive how much snow came down. SLF has issued a warning level 4 for today, tomorrow they're reporting a 3. With this amount of fresh snow and the wind, caution is definitely advised.
Overall impression
It was actually a perfect day. There was just one drawback... The upper section, from Gurschenalp to Gemsstock, was closed today. So if you have time tomorrow and they actually open, you'll have a lot of fun. And I have appointments... Please let me know in the comments if I've promised too much. Ride safe!
