Snow report Andermatt / Gotthard, 12/29/2019
Schöner Tag trotz Tourengehermassen in Realp

Snow condition
In Realp there is a lot more snow than in Andermatt. All skiable without any problems and really well snowed in! The 20 cm of new snow from Friday on top justify 4 stars here!
Snow quality
Also better than on Thursday in Andermatt. Even if there were one or two places where you could feel the harder layer underneath or there was a very light cover, the vast majority of the turns from the top (2900 m) to the bottom (1500 m) were in beautiful cold, very light powder snow. That's how it should be!
Risks
Sliding snow avalanches on all southern, partly also western and eastern slopes. Be absolutely careful here. Otherwise, there is a risk of loose snow avalanches in steep areas. Drift snow packs not as easily visible today as on Thursday. We weren't able to spot any alarm signs on the shady northern slope today.
Overall impression
Top day in central Switzerland and the best of the still young season. Now it's getting worse as it's warmer and there's already a lot of track. The masses of ski tourers (including us) at 8am in Realp are unbelievable. There must be 200+ people on the mountain, and although it's a bit spread out, you're never really alone...
