Variations of snow cover

Due to the recent snowfall, there is generally a lot of snow on the plateau near the Aragats. We can't drive to the original starting point by car, but are allowed to skinning up and starting in the village The snow conditions in the summit area are so good that we only have to walk the last few meters.

Hard, pressed snow

The exposed location of the volcano means that a lot of wind works on the snow cover. As a result, powder snow can only be found occasionally in hollows and otherwise the snow cover is very compact with wind gusts. In the afternoon, the snow cover on the south-facing slopes is partially softened and easy to ski.

A fantastic tour to the highest mountain in Armenia at the end. Due to the length of the tour (~30km and 1900hhm), it is advisable to start early and enter the initially very flat valley towards Aragats with the first sunlight. The first 9km are easy to conquer, from then on the finish is always in sight. The view of the surrounding mountains is stunning, and on a clear day you can even see Mount Ararat (Turkey's highest mountain). The tour is only really steep in rare places, so the enjoyment of skiing tends to remain in the background.
