Powder - the finest start to the season
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Friday day and night to Saturday there was 30 - 40 cm of fresh snow on the Arlberg. Only at the very top or in gullies and hollows is there a base, for the most part the fresh snow lies on the ground without a base, but it was still easy to ride without too much contact with stones or the ground. No problem at all on the meadow slopes, but here and there stone contact further up. The foundation should now be in place.
Snow quality
40 cm of powder - cold - mostly windless.
Risks
In exposed areas and behind the edges of the terrain, the wind carried the debris. These areas were, as the LLB correctly wrote, extremely easy to trigger. Very little wind influence in the Lech area, significant wind drifting towards Valfager. Several small snow slabs observed in the area of ridges and terrain edges. Caution is advised!
Overall impression
A first-class start to the season with lots of powder and nobody on the move. Rarely have I experienced such a relaxed day on the Arlberg without any rush. As there is hardly any base yet, it's best to stay on the grassy slopes and ski carefully.
