Snow&Safety Conference in Zürs am Arlberg
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Every now and then you can still see a rock, but due to the altitude in Lech/Zürs the situation is very different to St. Anton, which we were able to see during our journey. Snowboarders are still breaking into the snow cover (pines). However, this should change after a basic adjustment.
Snow quality
Between a five-star superblower in the shade and a light crust in the south-facing terrain, good to very good to ride overall.
Risks
Here the assessment of my impressions in Lech/Zürs differs somewhat from Pinola's observations in Stuben. (So you can see the small-scale differences)In both Lech and Zürs, the snow was predominantly unbound, although you could see the wind influence on the Valbona from Zürs. I noticed mouths and sliding snow chutes in all exposures except the north, and overall it was a rather stable day in my opinion, but we also skied rather leisurely. Yesterday's LLB from Vorarlberg fits completely in terms of gliding snow problems.
Overall impression
It was a successful start to the season without the crowds and with some interesting presentations and training sessions. The follow-up report on the conference will follow this week
