Snow condition
The snow conditions are good at higher altitudes. There is a lot of snow in the gullies, if you don't ski up the steeper side walls you can get down easily without coming into contact with stones, but the more open slopes and ridges are sometimes blown away by the strong wind, and there is not much snow at lower altitudes and in the denser forest.
Snow quality
The snow quality is still quite good if you find the right spots. It is advisable to seek out gullies that are sheltered from the wind and don't get much sunlight. On the north side, the snow is still nice and powdery, at least where it hasn't been affected too much by the wind. In general, the snow quality varies greatly in a small area (super powder snow, settled powder, hard snow/wind cover) and there was some fresh snow overnight (max. 5cm). On the south side, there must have been a snow cover beforehand. As a result, there was some powder snow on a lid in our south-facing gully, which was still quite easy to ski. The powder snow that flew down from the steep rock faces collected at the edges of the gully. As a result, you could also find some deeper powder snow there.
Risks
The LWD has issued a 2 for the region with a focus on a north-facing drift and old snow problem. In my opinion, you can currently ski safely in this exposure.
Overall impression
Weathery day in the Kalkkögeln!
Since the last real snowfall was some time ago, expectations were not really high. It turned out to be much better than expected and there was still some really good snow to be found in places on both descents. The surroundings in the Kalkkögeln are also always beautiful.
