Snow condition
Apart from blown-off ridges, above-average snow cover. The snowfall before the rain has brought some growth.
Snow quality
There was everything from wind cover on the Satteljoch below the Lampsenspitze to melt crust and soaked snow further down. Snow cover shaped by rain (runoff channels) up to an altitude of over 2000m.
Risks
The relaxed tour in fine weather is therefore a tricky situation. Very warm right from the parking lot and ascent in a T-shirt. From midday onwards, the wind picked up considerably and continued to blow snow. Despite this, there were only a few avalanches to be seen. However, the road to Kühtai was closed throughout the day.
Overall impression
Nice tour in a tricky avalanche situation. The sun and warm temperatures on the ascent made the tour feel more like spring than high winter.
