Snow condition
The last snowfall brought a good 50cm in the Axamer Lizum. This means that a lot is possible in the off-piste terrain, although some stones are lurking or have already been exposed. The gullies in the Kalkkögel now also look acceptable, although there is a lot of wind influence at the top and a few stones are still sticking out.
Snow quality
The best snow is at altitudes between around 2100m and down to just under 1700m. There you can still find very good powder snow for the most part. Further up there is a little more wind influence (nevertheless not very disturbing and very good to ski).
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Altitude: 2000 m – 2400 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
The old snow problem applies to many areas that were not largely covered before the snowfall. It is limited in the off-piste terrain, but there are some avalanche cracks to be seen on many slopes close to the area, which were triggered by winter sports enthusiasts on Wednesday. From a distance, we also saw a few avalanches on the north-east side of the Sellrainer Kögele (see photos).
Overall impression
Beautiful day of touring around the Axamer Lizum. In the area itself, every centimeter is already through and the Ampferstein, Widdersberg etc. were also really busy today. The remaining gullies that weren't done before due to a lack of snow haven't been groomed yet. But due to the old snow problem, they should probably be treated with caution.
