Variant skiing in Kühtai
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still very little snow in the northern Stubai Alps. On the south side, often no continuous snow cover even above 2000m. Mostly around 10cm base. A little more snow on the north side, depending on the terrain, but only enough to avoid stone contact in non-rocky terrain. Sharks are still an issue, even on the north side. Ridges and summits are mostly blown away. Mountain pine belts are hardly snowed in.
Snow quality
Here there are 3 stars for wind-protected north-facing areas. About 10cm of fine fresh snow has fallen here. These can also be skied well. On the south side, the powder is still good in the morning (if there is a base...) but quickly deteriorates again with the sun. Snow has fallen with a lot of wind and many areas are heavily blown off.
Risks
According to LLB level 2 to 3 (over 2400 hm). Not uncritical! At the exit of the gondola just above the start of a short and popular tour, 2 winter sports enthusiasts triggered a considerable snow slab in a north-easterly exposure. Later in the day, the fresh snow slid with sunlight on the surface of the old snow cover.
Overall impression
The snowfall has partly helped to improve the conditions. Some variants are already possible (but still with a handbrake!) Unfortunately, the wind has blown off a lot of areas. We can (still...) only hope for the next snowfalls, which will now have a little more base.
