Little fresh snow and lots of ice and rain since December. At least 170 cm base at the top

Snow quality

Hardly any fresh snow on the west side of the Belledonne. Hidden behind it is about 20 cm of powder that holds quite well on the crusty surface and also allows steeper sections. In the morning it was still cold and dusty but in the shade it was also very bumpy in places. Very inhomogeneous snow cover overall. From "wow here it's glittering and dusty" to "ahh icy avalanche debris", everything was there. But all in all a positive surprise

Risks

Warming was critical in the afternoon. Should have stayed cold but it got quite warm. Actually a 2 according to Bra I would have guessed more like a 3. Hold steep things but watch out for warming and danger of falling!

It was worth it. The French Powder Apocalypse is still a long time coming, but there's still plenty to do. With a little local knowledge of where the snow is, you can start some good tours
