Peyre Rouge im Vercors
Snow condition

Overall impression
Snow condition
Sufficient snow from the Frechinets parking lot (1200m) to the summit of the Peyre Rouge (1960m). Crossing a few streams in the forest requires you to take off your skis. The snow-covered plateau of the Vercors is beautiful!
Snow quality
Wind and rain - most recently wind - have been up to mischief: From the tree line (1650m) there is about 5cm of fresh snow on the frozen surface, which has quickly turned into crushed snow. At the start, where it has thawed in the sunshine (picture 2), it is easy to ski. Otherwise it's hard work and from the tree line you can expect excellent concrete ;-)
Risks
Avalanches are currently only to be expected at higher altitudes. Apart from the broken snow, nothing is moving.
Overall impression
Despite the poor quality of the snow, this wonderful tour will live long in the memory. The descent to the south-east opens up towards the columnar Mont Aiguille and the Belledonne and Devoluy ranges behind it.
It's hard to believe that Henri Giraud landed his plane on Mont Aiguille in 1957!

Note: The Vercors is the massif above the Belledonne to the west.
