Snow report Belledonne, 02/04/2017
Ski tour on the Chamechaude with 40 cm freshies
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Low base at the start at 1300 m further up, soggy "sous couche" with 40 cm of heavy powder. You still have to be careful at the bottom because of stones.
Snow quality
High snow line and therefore unfortunately some heavy powder up to 1800m. Towards evening, however, the snow cover cooled down considerably. Real riding fun looks different, but as we all know, there's always something going on.
Risks
Below 1800 you had to be careful. Wet snow avalanches on rocks or bushes cannot be ruled out as there was only a very thin base in places. It was difficult to assess today, there was also some wind drifting from the previous day in more exposed mountain areas. Significant wind influence above 2000 m.
Overall impression
The storm has brought a lot of snow. Both Chartreuse and Vercor have received around 30-40 cm of snow and it is still snowing. Much more has fallen in the Belledonne, but with a high avalanche risk. Let's hope that the snow line drops, because at the moment it's too dangerous at the top and still insufficient at the bottom.
