Skitour auf die Croix de Belledonne bei Mix aus Sonne, Firn und Pulverschnee
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
From the parking lot in Freydieres you have to scramble through the forest for about 40 minutes. From 1600 m there is enough snow for touring. Snow depth then rises quickly and from 2500 it still looks like winter.
Snow quality
Below the Croix de Belledonne still powdery, otherwise super firn snow. Wind has worked less here due to the sheltered location. The snow will remain good for the next few days. Only the approach is getting longer and not necessarily better.
Risks
In the couloir from the east, tracks and huge snow slab cracks could be seen. Snow slabs can be found on almost every mountain in Expo Nord in steep, rocky terrain. There has also been a large snow slab on the south side over the past few days which turned into a wet snow avalanche
Overall impression
The long ascent was worth it. The conditions in the Belledonne massif are very good and there is not a soul around.
