Variations of snow cover

From yesterday to today, another 20 cm or so has been added. That helps a lot, of course, but you still have to be very careful about contact with the ground. I got a nasty cut today. The snow cover is very unevenly distributed due to the wind, some hollows are very well filled, but right next to them it's blown off. The forest still doesn't work at all. You can ski down into the valley on meadows. Touring and downhill options are still very limited.

Breakable crust
Powder snow

Really good powder, but also wind-treated in places. From about 1000m above sea level downwards you can feel the rain/crushed harsh crust, but it doesn't bother much with the powder on top.

Risks

Cracking (When entering the snow cover)
Fresh avalanches
West North-West

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

Lots of wind, still prominent snow plumes on the high peaks today. Significant wind influence in the middle elevations too. Spontaneous board release could be observed, a small one in the steep slope came off when I drove over it.

Dry slab avalanche

Worse

Wow, really cool day. In terms of the skiing experience, definitely 4*, but unfortunately I can't give that with the poor snow conditions. Very nice winter feeling with great light, clouds and snow. It's also really cool that you can simply take the public bus up to 1500m, then bomb down the open slopes next to the pistes and at the end you can ski an approx. 9 km long descent (with a little hatscher in between) over meadows all the way down to the valley... <3
