Snow condition
Fortunately, there was more than expected. Above 1900m it was a good 20 cm. In sheltered areas at high altitudes it will be fine for a few more weeks (there is still a good meter or so on average), but on the whole it's getting very tight. High starting points, a lot of carrying and a bike are mandatory.
Snow quality
Beautiful powder in the shade with the occasional blow-through on the hard old snow cover. Avoid the sun at all costs.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Quite manageable. The unbound fresh snow lies on a very compact layer of old snow. The sun-exposed walls crackled every few minutes. There was hardly any wind at midday, but in the morning there were still large summit flags to be seen.
Avalanche activity
Wet loose snow avalanche
Altitude: 2200 m
Overall impression
Second beautiful winter day in a week. Unexpectedly lots of fresh snow with wonderfully cold temperatures in the morning, even if it wasn't really deep anywhere. A little earlier would have been even better, but 90% of the descent was in the shade and therefore still powdery.
