Dust on Crust im Avers
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Enough snow, but the problem of snow-covered ridges and only slightly snow-covered rocks still exists. Overnight there was a cosmetic 1 cm of fresh snow, but overall the snow depth here in the Avers is good for touring, but you still have to be careful on the descent.
Snow quality
Dust on crust. The melted snow cover was load-bearing in all expos, then on the north side above approx. 2400 it was three stars: the most recent crust collapsed, then underneath was the loose fresh snow from last week (Thursday evening/Friday morning) and the crust underneath held. It was great for skiing and you could pick up a bit of speed on the wide slopes. Further down it was good and fun to ride Dust on Crust. All in all great!
Risks
Very relaxed here in the Avers. Thanks to the cooling, there were no new wet snow slides to be seen in the southern sector either.
Overall impression
Hammer weather (kitschy blue!) and great conditions for skiing. As it wasn't powder, still only 3 stars. Personally, however, it was a cult day: weather, landscape, relaxed ascents together in a small group, absolutely untracked, wide-open slopes. We were the only ones far and wide, we only saw a group of five people making tracks in a neighboring area/valley.
