Snow report Brandnertal / Rätikon, 02/03/2017

The foehn and the mild temperatures have done a great job. It's green again in Brand. From around 1300 m there is enough snow for various activities. Higher on the south side.

Below approx. 1500 m strongly declining. Above that, OK as usual. Due to the wind, heavy loads above the tree line. On the south side, the deglaciation is progressing rapidly. Not exhilarating for the time of year.

Snow quality

Once again everything is there. Wind and broken snow >1800-2000m. Below that there is good melted snow and fine skiing from 1400 in the afternoon. In the valley (approx. 1000 m) only swamp. Unfortunately very variable and being in the right spot at the right time is certainly not easy.

Risks

Many loose snow slides have disappeared. At higher elevations (> 2200 m) there are compacted areas. Sliding snow slides at lower altitudes (< 2000 m) and drifting snow at higher altitudes are currently to be observed.

All in all, a nice day in the area. It urgently needs fresh snow otherwise it will be a very short season off-piste < 2000m.
