Snow report Bregenzerwald, 01/02/2016

Snow condition
The current snowfall of around 20-25 cm helps tourism but not off-piste skiing. On the south side there is nothing underneath and on the north side it is mostly on a crust of melted snow. Many dangers still lurk, such as holes, stones, tree stumps, ...
Snow quality
The fresh snow was generally slightly moist up to altitudes of around 2,000 m (SF limit was around 700 m). On the shady side, it was pretty good and on the sunny side, the snow became slab-like and quite moist from midday. No high winter conditions.
Risks
No official LLB. Level 1-2 above the tree line, level 1 below. On the shaded side, the snow lies on a crust of melted snow and in wind-affected places (easy to recognize) it can be bound and come off as a snow slab. This becomes more critical as the altitude increases (here it is finished at 2,000 m). On the sunny side, spontaneous slides broke loose in the afternoon, which were not particularly large due to the small amount of snow. As it is not too cold, the settlement is favored.
Overall impression
It's nice to ski in "real" snow again and make a few turns in fresh snow, but it's not fun. We still need a lot of snow for meaningful trips to the touring area. At the moment, it's a balancing act between the risk of injury and wear and tear on equipment. The changeable weather is set to continue ... It will be interesting to see!
