Snow report Bregenzerwald, 01/05/2017
Tours on the sunny side in the nordstau of Vorarlberg! Winter 2017 is finally showing its best side. Fresh snow and arctic cold. Unfortunately, there was no base before the snowfall at medium altitudes. At high altitudes, the situation is

Snow condition
The arctic cold has preserved the powder perfectly. There was no snow here before. After the snowfall, there is approx. 55 cm at approx. 1300 m. It is a very homogeneous layer, which has already clearly settled close to the ground. The snow is perfect for surfing. In total, there is > 50 cm throughout. It's even enough to (carefully) ride on forest sections. However, there is far too little snow for the time of year. But with 1-2 more snowfalls of 20-40 cm each, it would look acceptable here.
Snow quality
Top powder snow that is already slightly settled. Super fluffy on the shaded side and much heavier on the sunny side from approx. 1700 m, but no restrictions when skiing.
Risks
Very relaxed in the wooded area. Here, only from extremely steep areas (>45°) were slightly covered loose snow slides visible. Clear signs of wind can be seen above the tree line. Surface frost has formed on the shaded side in particular. With careful route selection, many descents are possible.
Overall impression
A very rewarding day of touring. A snowy winter landscape, arctic cold and bluebirds. For me, these are always great days. Although it was teeming with tourers, we were able to ski almost entirely untracked slopes.
