Snow condition

It looks very wintry in Damüls. A serious assessment of the snow conditions is hardly possible this winter. In local areas it can be very good. Especially in the north-facing sector from approx. 1400m to 1700m. But above the tree line it can be very variable. Depending on the wind direction in the past, there may also be acceptable conditions on the sunny side. About 20 cm fell overnight in the wind-protected area. Above the tree line there was quite a bit of wind and drift snow formed near the crest.

Deep and fluffy in the sheltered north-facing area. In general, the fresh snow was fine, but above the tree line it had been worked by the wind. The hard base was noticeable in places and spoiled the fun. A greeting from winter.

Risks

Some drift snow has formed in the area close to the crest (on the shaded side). Skiing triggered small snow slabs in the steep shaded terrain. The slopes were below 35°! The LLB described it well and level 2 fits above the tree line. With more fresh snow, it would definitely be more critical above the tree line.

Finally some fresh snow again! It snowed until about 13:00 (more or less) and then suddenly opened up with sunshine. The skiers invaded the terrain like a swarm of locusts and in about 2 hours everything that could be reached was covered. Once again, it was nice to ski short powder turns in good light. Objectively everything was very modest ... One tends to be overly euphoric ;-)
