Snow report Bregenzerwald, 01/21/2016

The recent snowfall has led to a significant improvement in the situation. The cold has preserved the snow very well. But there may still be more to come ... Beautiful ski tour with restraint!

Above 800 m and up to the tree line, there is a consistently homogeneous, closed snow cover that is thick enough to ski down on the shaded side without major problems. Above the tree line, the variability of the snow cover increases very quickly. Many ridges and exposed areas are only covered by the last few centimeters that have fallen without wind.

Fine, clearly set powder that is as light as a feather to ride. The dust is still very fine. On the sunny side, it already has a light cap up to approx. 2,000 m. The temperature has risen significantly today and so the powdery snow quality will continue to decrease.

Risks

All danger spots are well described in the LLB. On the shady side (cold air basin), a pronounced surface frost has formed. On extremely steep sunny slopes, many sliding snow chutes are visible, especially on meadow slopes. Most of them have already partially slid off. I have seen 2 very large, older self-triggered slides (crack > 1m / length approx. 80m). 1x eastern slope and 1x northern slope. Both above 2,000 m.

Beautiful day with great snow conditions. The snow situation has improved significantly, but there's still a fair amount of snow missing for more variations and to cover the poor base. Apart from that, there's nothing to complain about with powder and Bluebird.
