Snow report Bregenzerwald, 01/29/2016
The temperature fluctuations continue. On the south side, it was already warming up in the morning today!

Snow condition
There is enough snow here for a large number of descents. Due to the many sliding snow mouths, I estimated a compact snow cover of approx. 80 cm+. As soon as you get above 1,900 m, the snow cover varies greatly and is clearly influenced by the wind. On the sunny side it goes down to around 1,200 m and on the shaded side much further.
Snow quality
Up to 2,000 m, there is a stable crust of melted snow on the sunny side. South-facing slopes were already melting in the late morning. As long as the sun didn't reach the snow, it was hard. The snow conditions could change very quickly.
Risks
Lots of sliding snow in the ONE-N-WNW exposures. A large self-release (west-facing slope) near the ridge at approx. 1,900 m was clearly visible. The sliding snow cracks are absolutely scorching hot. On our final traverse, a fresh exit (eastern slope) was already visible before 12 noon. The slopes are usually of considerable size.
Overall impression
Nice ski tour in spring conditions at the height of winter. The snow quality was surprisingly good on south-facing slopes. The sliding snow cracks should not be underestimated. Let's see what it looks like after this current front.
