Snow report Bregenzerwald, 02/03/2018
Günstige LWL, aber leider nur 15-20 cm Neuschnee

Snow condition
From our starting point (approx. 1,100 m) to the finish point (approx. 2,000 m), there is enough snow (> 1 m to approx. 2 m) both in the dense forest and in open areas. Exposed areas are exposed from the tree line onwards. We opted for a "traffic jam" today and Snowgrid was very good again.
Snow quality
Despite the cold, there is a layer of hard snow on the south side and the snow is very dull on the shaded side. In the forest the quality was acceptable, unfortunately there was not enough fresh snow and you always hit the hard snow cover.
Risks
Generally favorable LWL. The rain gutters can be seen under the fresh snow and the old snow cover underneath is hard as concrete. The fresh snow is stress-free and only weakly bonded to the old snow cover. In extremely steep terrain (>40°) and near ridges (>1,800 m), watch out for drift snow. Otherwise there is a lot of sluff. Steep meadow slopes very often have a fish mouth. Many chutes are already down.
Overall impression
Ascending in wintry temperatures, snowfall and changing light conditions is simply something beautiful. A favorable LWL with fresh snow would have allowed possibilities, but unfortunately the light conditions were too diffuse in the upper area. 10-15 cm more and it would have been perfect. The forest section was o.k.
