Snow report Bregenzerwald, 11/22/2017
It's spring in Damüls ...
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Quite appealing and sufficient. We started on the Furkastrasse, approx. 1,600m. Ascent and descent, without ground contact, possible from there. Sufficient snow conditions in the area for sensible ski tours, from approx. 1,500m.
Snow quality
Still powdery in shady locations. In the sun, there is often a hard snow cover, but this has softened during the day and produced perfect "November snow". On both the shady and sunny sides, there is often a windblown hardpack. However, it is quite thin and can often be broken when swinging.
Risks
We have triggered a few smaller wet snow slides on south-facing slopes. Otherwise there is still too little snow for larger snow slabs, but quite a lot of snow has been transported by the wind. I wouldn't consider every slope and gully to be safe, and there is often a layer of hardpack under the recent fresh snow in all exposures.
Overall impression
Three stars. Not yet optimal, but definitely worthwhile. In Damüls (Portlahorn and Ragazer Blanken), sensible ski tours are possible. Presumably also next weekend, despite the current spring temperatures.
