Exposition
Snow condition
Quite good snow conditions for the altitude and the current time of year. Despite the shallow snow cover (parking lot approx. 40 cm, summit area approx. 80 cm), the meadow surface naturally helps a lot in avoiding contact with enemies of any kind. With the new snowfall, the situation should of course improve somewhat
Snow quality
Actually quite good snow, but a lot of wind influence in places and already very rutted. Little wind influence in the forest and still good powder in places, but not really usable due to the flat terrain. Further up, especially above the tree line, almost only drift snow packs or blown-in spots.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Risks
Wind intensity: Extreme (> 60 km/h)
No fresh avalanches were observed, but there were considerable warning signs that made us avoid the steeper terrain. In addition to the strong wind and poor visibility, these were mainly large drift snow packs.
Overall impression
The aim of the tour was to get an overview of the snow conditions and potential variants for the coming snowfalls (and of course to brush up on some avalanche transceiver skills). Although the flat terrain and poor visibility prevented a more rewarding descent, it was actually a satisfactory scouting day overall.
