Windblown in Serre Chevalier
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Quite a good location actually. Virtually no rock contact and a descent into the valley is possible. Most of the variants are rideable but...
Snow quality
...with the small minus point that the snow is now quite choppy to ski in all exposures due to the wind. The 40 cm of fresh snow from the weekend has now been blown and crushed almost everywhere
Risks
There was virtually no slope without wind signs. Smaller descents could be seen in the steep terrain close to the ridge. There were also tracks on very steep slopes where you have to ask yourself what the point of taking unnecessary risks is with a quad and the poor snow quality
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the PowderAlert in the Western Alps is over as quickly as it came. At last there is a base for the snowfalls that will hopefully come soon and with good local knowledge and tours you are sure to find good snow in wind-protected areas.
