Snow report Carinthia-South, 02/21/2014
The masses of snow that have fallen from the clouds here are unbelievable! We had a great day at Nassfeld today. Thanks to Alex Huber's guiding, we were able to get descents in a short time that would otherwise have required a lot of research.

Overall impression
Snow condition
Well above average. Approx. 1 m in the valley and a loose 3-4 m in the area. Simply mighty. All exposures have enough snow here. The snow conditions here are excellent for skiing.
Snow quality
Unfortunately, it has repeatedly poured down to well over 1,800 m. That's why the snow cover is soaked to almost 2,000 m. By Friday, around 50 cm of fresh snow of the heavy variety had fallen. Another 20 cm from Friday to Saturday and a further 20 cm above approx. 1,000 m during the day. Due to the cooling, however, this was the finest powder, which literally covered you with snow at every turn, but still not quite as perfectly dry. By the afternoon, the tracks from the morning were covered in snow again! That's how it has to be ...
Risks
Level 3 (with a tendency towards 4). The wind was blowing strongly near the ridge and was clearly shifting the snow. In my opinion, a critical amount of fresh snow was reached during the day. It became increasingly tricky. Most of the fresh snow lies on top of a layer of harsh snow, which serves as a sliding layer. The snow cover is generally very moist and has lost its firmness. In very steep slopes, ground avalanches or larger wet snow slides are quite possible.
Overall impression
We skied in off-piste terrain up to 35 degrees and avoided descents with large catchment areas. It was certainly one of the top 3 days we've had here in recent years. Also thanks to the company of Alex Huber. www.nassfeld.at P.S. The photos are from February 21 and 22.
