Snow condition

40 cm fresh snow
Descent to valley (to 1200 m)

The fresh snow conceals the thin snow cover. A shark in the lower section half tore my skis to shreds. Our tour was still manageable, we only carried skis on the forest path.

Silky, fast powder in shady areas, probably fell on Tuesday-Wednesday: 4 stars. Where the sun reaches, rather sticky and slow: 2 stars.

Risks

Old snow problem
Fresh avalanches
Diurnal warming
Woom- or hissing noise
North-Eas

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

The fresh snow is loose and unbound in shady terrain, bound but also stable in sunny terrain. We saw an avalanche in shady, steep terrain and still went up the slope next to it. A clear "wumpf" sound with a noticeable sinking of the snow cover reminded us to leave immediately.

A special day, because it was surprising to find so much good powder! The long journey to our old home (FVG) was rewarded with a ski tour in the best company and conditions. The "Wumpf" sound and the shark attack made the day even more impressive. Io sono Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. Summer is in the valley and winter stays on the mountain.
