Snow report Central Switzerland, 01/06/2015

I skied the Steinberg on the Titlis 5 times today - with bluebird and wind-pressed but grippy snow. It was fun away from the hustle and bustle on the slopes. Amazing what was going on for an ordinary Wednesday...

In the Steinberg between 3020 and 1800 meters completely sufficient. The snow has only slipped in certain places on the way out. There are roots and stones in places, but you can easily avoid them. The key section is currently only for the daring. As there is not yet much snow, there is only one short, narrow and steep section. (See picture - marked in red, you have to go down). There you have to straighten your skis, close your eyes and get through.

Pressed by the wind. Almost like on the piste. Except that the snow in Steinberg is very grippy and good for skiing. Much more fun than on the icy slopes.

Risks

Difficult... SLF reports danger level 2. The snow in the entire Steinberg is compressed as if by a snow groomer. But under no circumstances should you be under any false sense of security - as the events in Graubünden and Austria have shown. It's unbelievable how many skiers and snowboarders were on the Steinberg today without equipment. Are there no more comfortable places to take the woman out? Maybe she wouldn't swear as much on the sun terrace as she would between the rocks and bushes ;-)

A good day without fresh snow, but with plenty of vertical meters. I can hardly walk any more - but my muscles in my legs are ready for the next snow. I've definitely had enough training today. And: it never hurts to ski routes that lead over the glacier even without much fresh snow. To learn by rote, so to speak.
