The foliage isn't working at the moment - and that's in the middle of January. At the bottom - at around 1200 meters - there is simply no snow. And further up, bushes that are otherwise completely covered in snow are peeking out. But snow is also urgently needed on the Steinberg route - at least from 3000-1800 meters. The snow is completely blown away by the strong wind and in many places the bare ice appears.

From icy to hard and wind-pressed to crushed snow and in the valley as slushy as in spring.

Risks

Today the danger of falling through the icy patches was probably greater than the danger of getting caught in an avalanche.

The main thing is to be outside - that's a good way to summarize the day. Around 30 centimetres of fresh snow is expected to fall in central Switzerland tomorrow. Bitterly necessary, I can only say. But it could easily be a meter like in Ticino.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
