Sea of fog - wet snow snails - north sideTours in the Engelberg valley above the sea of fog

Snow condition
Was back in the Engelberg Valley for the first time this winter - and compared to previous years, there were significantly fewer. Stone contact can be avoided with a careful skiing style. Some of the west-facing slopes were really blown down.
Snow quality
Powder can still be found in sheltered north-facing locations - and this is practically without wind influence. Everything on the north side (NE-NW) that gets a little more sun has a light cover, but this is not disturbing. Open slopes alternate between powder, broken slush and influenced by the wind. Moist slush in the fog.
Risks
On the north side and protected from the wind, the whole thing looks quite ok. There's still plenty to do over the next few days. On the sunny side from E-S-W fish mouths and mighty base avalanches. Pay attention to the diurnal cycle! We drove past car-sized wet snow slugs in the valley... I wouldn't want to be run over by them.
Overall impression
Top day with pure sunshine. Very good touring conditions at the moment with good snow conditions and with a bit of searching you can still find powder.
