Snow report Central Switzerland, 03/19/2017

I limit myself to the slopes above 1800 meters, such as Steinberg and Grosses and Kleines Sulz. The snow conditions there are actually sufficient. At least it is possible to ski down from top to bottom without coming into contact with rocks. In Steinberg there is enough snow again after the avalanche to avoid coming into contact with the bare ice.

The Steinberg was frozen solid in the morning. The fresh snow was blown away by the wind, the cover impenetrable. Accordingly, the slope was like a piste without tracks. By midday, even at almost 3000 meters, it was typical spring skiing with firn and slush. That was more suited to my wide poles, but who thinks the wind spoils the fun?

Risks

Engelberg is at warning level 2, but in the afternoon there were a few small wet snow slides that had come loose due to the sun and the very warm temperatures (+2 degrees at 3000 meters).

Normally, I don't experience conditions like this on the Titlis until mid-April at the earliest. But I'm not writing off winter just yet. After all, I had the day of my life last year on April 29. All in all, it was a great day today - especially the two firn runs down the Steinberg.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
