Snow report Central Switzerland, 05/03/2016

It's May and it's more winter on the Titlis than the whole winter. Was today the last powder day? I hope not, because it could go on like this all summer as far as I'm concerned.

Snow condition

I'm only talking about the Steinberg at 3020 meters - Trüebsee at 1800 meters. But the snow conditions there are better than they've ever been all winter. Over the last few weeks and days, the snow has finally fallen without any wind - a rarity this season. Perfect from the summit to the exit. No stones, no ice, simply perfect.

Snow quality

4 von 5 Sterne

Very good from morning to midday. It was a bit windswept, but it still pushed properly with every turn. At midday it got a bit slushy at the bottom - on the flat. But that's complaining on a high level. It's supposed to get a lot warmer tomorrow - a cap is to be feared.

Risks

LFS reports warning level 2. We triggered small snow slabs in the very steep sections today. New snow was not yet so well connected to the old snow. Due to the rising temperatures, wet snow slides must be expected from midday tomorrow. In the Steinberg, you therefore have to be particularly careful on the way out.

Overall impression

5 von 5 Sterne

We had a great day today with 20 centimeters of fresh snow and sunshine. Should I do it? Should I give it five stars? In high season it would have been four. But hey, it's May 4th and that makes it twice as much fun! Not least because for once there's no more stress, even on the Titlis. Now it's really only the very addicted who are still on the mountain. And the Swedes on a visit home.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
