The snow cover over the glacier ice is around 30 centimetres. Crevasses are still wide open - but much less wide than at the beginning of last winter. Nevertheless, the mountain railroads expressly warn against leaving the slopes.
Snow quality
Well. Grippy to hard on the slopes. It has been raining for the last few days up to 3000 meters. Next to the slopes, a thin but nasty layer of broken snow spoils the fun. Those who made the 30-minute ascent from the Klein- to the Grosstitlis were rewarded. At the top, the snow quality was good.
Risks
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the avalanche risk is low. There is no official bulletin yet and I always find it tricky when laypeople make claims. So - watch out!
Overall impression
Unique - after all, the first day of the season is always great - no matter what the conditions are like. Snow, refreshingly cold air, sun, meeting all the people you've missed for a summer and skiing - what more could you need? That's why 5 stars
