Snow report Central Switzerland, 12/16/2015

The glacier area received 10 centimetres of fresh snow on Wednesday. The mountain railway operators have already measured over a meter of snow up there. But beware: I've never seen crevasses this deep and wide in the Steinberg before. (see pictures) Anyone skiing down there at the moment really needs to be familiar with the area. Otherwise it can be really dangerous. As the altitude increases, so does the snow cover. The descent into the valley is still quite rideable, even if there is grass or dirt in a few places. Because of the warm temperatures over the next few days, making snow will not be easy.

At the very top, at 3000 meters, powder is good. Then quickly a nasty crushed snow cover. From 2000 meters on slopes (at this altitude you can forget about freeriding) very hard, you can also talk about bare ice. Because the Titlis consists mainly of north-facing slopes, this extends down into the valley.

Risks

Avalanche warning level 1. The Steinberg - currently the only possible freeride area on the Titlis - is considerably more dangerous due to crevasses. See above.

If the conditions everywhere were like those at the top of the Titlis, it would be ok. But above 2000 meters, it's no longer really fun on the slopes either. It's simply too icy. The conclusion in a nutshell: We need snow. And very urgently.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
