Snow report Chamonix, 01/26/2019
Arêche Beaufort variants with a view of Mont Blanc
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Offside is not quite so good below 1500 m. Roots and stones in the forest get through. Above that, the base is sufficient but still clearly below average. Above 2000 m, the route can be chosen quite freely. However, smaller rocks still stick out quite a bit and in some places the vegetation is not yet sufficiently snow-covered
Snow quality
About 25 cm of powder since Wednesday. The snow quality remained quite good as it was cold. Only slopes that were a bit exposed to the sun are warmed up and crusty from the afternoon onwards. In the steep off-piste terrain, the snow was quickly gone and icy underneath. So everything from hui to pfui. Best and still dusty is the north side above 2000m.
Risks
Locally strong wind gnawing on the surface, on other slopes no wind influence at all on the surface. On the steeps, the fresh snow comes along as sluff as the snow does not hold well on the icy base. Unfortunately, a good 3-pointer does not yet allow steeper adventures.
Overall impression
From tomorrow with fresh snow it will be good to powder wherever there is forest and a good base. It's estimated that from Monday it will be deep enough that you won't be able to get through branches and the like in the forest.
