Areche Beaufort Powder Day
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Less ground contact in the forest than the day before due to fresh snow. Nevertheless, you still need a little more snow below 1500 to be able to ski without the handbrake.
Snow quality
Deep and fluffy in places, especially around the 2000 m mark, with around 30-40 cm in the course of the day. Unfortunately, it was also affected by the wind in places, so keep your hands off and into the forest. The first 500 m are quite good here, then it gets heavier and the brakes get sticky.
Risks
There is a lot of loose snow in the steep forest. Above the tree line, heavy drifts and cracks can also be observed in flat terrain. We avoided somewhat steeper and open slopes. On the opposite slope, a slab avalanche was triggered spontaneously in the off-piste terrain. Danger signs everywhere. It is currently only safe in the dense forest and not too steep. Also watch out for floating snow under the old snowfalls in the north sector. Yesterday I noticed that in some places there was a lot of build-up and you could push your pole through a hollow hole.
Overall impression
Very varied off-piste terrain for such a small ski area and with mixed conditions like these days, there is something for every weather and danger level. A real insider tip for really deep days when not much else is possible due to wind and avalanche danger.
