Snow report Chamonix, 12/16/2016
Eisiger Aufstieg zum Refuge Albert 1er, le Tour
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
On the north side from approx. 2200 m closed snow cover. Almost no snow on the south side up to 2500 m
Snow quality
Very hard in the morning and icy in places on the ascent (crampons necessary). Below the Refuge there are some blown-in patches and drift snow in the hollows. The rest is boulder-hard, partly blown up towards the afternoon.
Risks
Avalanches can be triggered almost exclusively in the high Alps. Significantly higher risk of falling due to bare ice
Overall impression
Beautifully scenic mountain tour to the edge of the Glaciers du Tour. The hairy parts of the ascent due to insufficient snow cover are rewarded with a fantastic glacier panorama.
