Snow condition

40 cm fresh snow
Blown backs

Skiing in the light forest goes well with the fresh snow. A few sticks and roots still peek out from time to time. Below 2200, sharks are less of a problem as the ground here is grassier and there was already a base before the snowfall. On off-piste edges, you can also get through the layer of fresh snow on the hard ground from time to time. No problem in hollows and open slopes and not noticeable.

Powder snow
Wind drifted snow

Basically great powder if it weren't for the wind. Actually, everything was deposited directly somewhere in the wind. You could ski fluffy powder snow in the lee hollows. But everything was quickly plowed up.

Wind drifted snow

Intensity: medium

Above: 2000 m

Risks

Cracking (When entering the snow cover)
Much fresh snow
South South-West West

Wind intensity: Extreme (> 60 km/h)

Some blasting in the morning and the quad didn't bode well. The terrain around the Télésiege du Tabe was well suited today to make the most of the day and the difficult conditions despite the wind and avalanche risk. Steep slopes - especially north-east slopes - were blown in hard and I would avoid them at all costs.

Better

The basic conditions for a perfect powder day were actually in place. Around 25 cm of fresh snow overnight on the doorstep and up to 40 cm on the mountain. Unfortunately, the Grands Montets gondola had broken down in the meantime and so it took some time before the first powder could be compacted. This was actually refreshingly fun but also short-lived, as strong winds and corresponding avalanche problems arose alongside some other highly motivated powder hunters. All in all, however, a decent start to the PowderAlert. It continues to snow heavily. It is blasting. Let's see what really comes down over the next few days. So far the possibilities are very limited as hardly any lifts have opened and the wind is ruining the snow.
