Snow quality
Due to the foehn, the snow became much warmer and thus heavier tonight up to over 2000m. It also turned one or two drifting snow slopes into deceptive surf powder.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
All lifts open today but zero visibility, especially at the top, and yesterday it looked wind-affected... we stayed in the middle layers and there was already about 30 cm of warm drift snow at the start. A small snow test at 35 degrees northwest and a short steep section has already given a clean slide. I suspect the depth of the snow varies greatly depending on the altitude and expo - depending on how much was blown away. In the area around the Pendant lift, it was gone in a matter of seconds today. No avalanche sightings in the terrain, but we were able to inspect the (in)stability of the snowpack a little more closely today.
Overall impression
Today was something of a hangover day after the powder party. You can still make use of the leftovers but the air (in the powder snow) is out. The hairdryer has turned the soft pillows into chewy marshmallows, and cornering in the forest is no longer quite so carefree. If you're lucky, you'll find one or two sheltered corners where the snow is a little looser. As there was thick fog at the top, we had to call it a day at lunchtime - it started to snow heavily. I thought I heard another load of fresh snow knocking on the door. That would be nice. Some colder air currents too.
