Snow condition
Below 2000 meters rather below average snow conditions for the time of year. Sufficient above that. Descent to Chamonix Tal is possible, but only if you find the perfect forest aisle and then find the forest trail. It certainly won't last much longer and was already borderline at a few narrow sections. Crevasses in the upper part of the Vallée Noir are well snowed in. Shortly before the Salle à manger, you have to be a little careful at terrain crossings - there are a few thin snow bridges that you should better avoid. Afterwards, you can reach the Montenvers without coming into contact with rocks if you ski with a little foresight... the descent is similar to a piste and makes shark spotting easy.
Snow quality
The snow is loose and deep, not even on the lightest side, but it makes you wish for more of these days. The quality of the terrain is somewhat unevenly distributed. It was very good on the south-east side. On the north side there was a slight wind influence and the wind was more compact. With the ski pole you can dive into about 1 m of loose snow until there is some resistance. Nevertheless, the snow has a slight warmth effect overall and is not as light as we had hoped.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
The triple today was hidden under a pile of sugary powder. The descent into the Vallée Noir was just under 35 degrees steep in the upper section and justifiable for us. Overall, no avalanche activity visible, even on the steeper descents of other groups. Unfortunately, except on the south side, the old snow problem is still breathing down our necks. I didn't see any fresh drift snow like in the avalanche report, but in some places the snowfall was accompanied by a little wind, which was noticeable on the slightly different surface. The places were quite far from ridges but open wide slopes.
Overall impression
Beautiful powder snow with sunshine. Unfortunately some clouds moved in in the afternoon. Below 2500m it could use more snow soon so that you don't always starve to death at the bottom. Overall rewarding conditions.
