Descent to valley (to 1300 m)

Rognon glacier well snowed in. The Glacier du Tour Noir also closed all crevasses except for a large one on the steep section. The exit from the Argentiere basin is now problem-free.

Snow quality

Hard, pressed snow
Firn
Powder snow
Jelly snow

Over 3200 m of wind-pressed powder underneath in most expos but mainly south-facing powder. quite tricky to ski. But also ok to ski in a few places. Very warm even at high altitude. No real firn conditions yet. Will hopefully get better in the next few days

Risks

No warning signs

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

Avalanches from steep, rocky terrain are an issue due to the warming, especially on the south side. Many ascent tracks that were created in the morning are blindly followed by people in the afternoon without realizing that they are still slumbering above them and that the warming can trigger some really wet loose avalanches. If you look ahead a little, you can avoid most of the dangers at the moment by choosing your terrain carefully. But the choice of tours remains limited until the snow cover has settled, even at high altitudes. Overall, however, less activity than expected. On the north side, some large crystalline snow was spotted yesterday in the extreme north-facing steep terrain at the Aiguilles des Grands Montets.

Better

A good tour to collect altitude meters and get your non-existent condition up to scratch. You don't need to go out for the snow quality at the moment. Better in a few days with good firn.
