Snow condition
Classic Vallée Blanche descent goes very well. Many bumps. Visible crevasses can be bypassed easily. The invisible ones seem to be well concealed. Possible without stone contact to the Montenvers. It is better to descend to the ice cave and take the stairs than to take the more direct left traverse to the gondola. There is no snow here and the bottom line is that it takes longer.
Snow quality
Grippy snow. Especially on the north-east facing slopes. Moguls are very common. In the late afternoon, some snow cover on the east side but stable.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Some wind from the southwest in the late afternoon. As there is not much loose snow at the moment, not much can be transported but watch out for new snowfalls in the next few days. A small change in the weather after the long high was also foreseeable in the clouds coming from the Italian side during the day.
Overall impression
Beautiful day and an opportunity to combine a short ridge tour with some skiing with friends. The Cosmique ridge is currently in good conditions. The Vallée Blanche too.
