Snow condition
Still good snow conditions for the time of year at high altitudes above 2000m. Descent over the Vallée Blanche is possible without stone contact even on the lower meters. The descent into the valley via the forest path is still ok at the top but gets worse every day at the bottom. Although it is quite cold, the snow cover is suffering and is clearly receding. Meanwhile at least 30 minutes of carrying passage on the last meters
Snow quality
On Monday, there was some fresh snow almost exclusively in the higher elevations. Nothing arrived in the valley apart from a little drizzle on Sunday evening. On the glacier, it's powdery in sheltered areas but with wind cover. Below the Aiguille du Midi, there's 30cm of the finest powder right next to completely icy patches. Everything is difficult to ski. Looks better than it is.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
3 new treacherous crevasses have opened up Riders Left before you turn into the Salle à manger, or below the Petit Rognon at about 2500 m. You only see them at the last moment and they are big enough to fall into. Judging by the tracks, some people have probably already slid over them.
Overall impression
It's almost a shame if you haven't managed to take the 2nd gondola directly into the untracked Vallée Blanche... but instead you head into the eastern flank of Mont Blanc du Tacul. Not very rewarding in terms of skiing but interesting mixed climbing in the Modica Noury route. Currently the best conditions from bottom to top. Bergschrund is easy to cross in the middle. Good powder snow in the snowfields and good ice for belaying in the upper lengths. Gervasutti Couloir on the Tacul looks reasonably snow-filled from a distance. The descent through the Vallée Blanche has every type of snow you can imagine. The current conditions could be summarized as a mix of grippy and icy.
