Snow condition
was already much worse this year. almost nothing at the bottom, you have to straightline the finish slope and up to the top you better carry a little bit to avoid stumps later. then 10 cm of snow every 100 m, impressive. but you definitely have to rely on rock-free alpine meadows up to 1300. in the flatter terrain above that, there is enough fresh snow (just under half a meter) to ski well even on stony meadows. from 1400 onwards, the wind increases and is very sharky outside of wind traps.
Snow quality
fine fine fine. sprotzl powder that really cruises. descending took zero energy today (exception: unavoidable shark zone) below 1300 it's slowly getting wetter. but the brakes only come on in the valley. there were already the first windows of sunshine, which really brought in the heat.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Above: 1400 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
the classic north route was def. too tricky for me today, especially alone. although only tiny loose snow slides and minimal cracks next to the skis on the ascent seemed rather ok. also less sleet than reported from the mangfall mountains.
Overall impression
a day like a refined entrée, most comparable to an artichoke in a white wine broth with wild herb salad. rare, but an experience. if prepared a little carelessly, the scratchy innards can be a little annoying, but otherwise a pleasure. well-washed lettuce in the lower layer poses no danger to the mouth and rounds off the dish with a white cream dressing thanks ulli for the sunny windows! i'm curious to see if the north slope will be tracked in tomorrow, i think someone will dare - good luck to them! yours hungrily...
