Snow condition
Courmayeur is still a better base than the Chamonix valley. You can ski down to 1300 m here, especially on forest roads and to a certain extent in the sparse forest. On the south side, there is some grass in a few places up to 2500m. All in all, it's pretty good for almost a month without any significant precipitation. If it weren't for the quality of the snow...
Snow quality
The cold temperatures in the low double-digit range mean that even on the south side the hard layers of snow are not melting, but neither are they softening... the strong winds of the last few weeks have also affected all exposures to such an extent that it resembles an arctic desert landscape. The search for powder snow can only be crowned with success through exceptional efforts and even that is not guaranteed. Even the most sheltered of all the north-facing gullies have been left with a hard snow surface by the wind, with the exception of a few square centimetres in the Gomito gully. In short, hard layers are present in all expos at all altitudes, which do not spoil the fun of skiing but test your equipment and nerves.
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
The main danger at the moment is the risk of falling. Crampons and often also crampons are highly recommended for most of the tours in the area at the moment. Beware of hard snow slabs. A slab east of the Col du Berrio Blanc has probably been triggered in the last few days (?) involving people. At least we found a broken ski pole in the crack area. Better avoid steep and hard drift snow slopes.
Avalanche activity
Dry slab avalanche (small)
Altitude: 2800 m

Overall impression
To escape the icy cold, a detour to the south side of Cormayeur was supposed to bring salvation. The hope that the remote Gomito Couloir would still be covered in powder snow was unfortunately in vain. Nevertheless, it was a nice tour with beautiful ascents and a few icy crossings. At least we didn't meet a soul.
