Snow report Courmayeur Mont Blanc, 02/28/2017

Snow condition
In the morning on the mountain about 20-25 cm of fresh snow, increasing to 30 to almost 40 cm during the day. Most of the time, however, you can get through onto the hard surface, and on the north side, even in the forest, there is a base all the way down. For this there are 3 stars. On the south side it looks different, Punta Helbronner, for example, can only be skied as far as the middle station.
Snow quality
Beautiful powder in the higher forest areas, including the odd face shot. The fresh snow gets heavier towards the bottom.
Risks
The fresh snow is not yet well bonded to the base. In the steeper forest there was quite a lot of sluff, and in the morning there was already a strong wind at altitude, and from midday it was stormy, even at lower altitudes, with considerable drifting. Defensive behavior is certainly advisable in open terrain.
Overall impression
Faceshots in the light larch forest result in what feels like 4 stars, especially in this winter. For reasons of objectivity, I give 3 stars because of the noticeably hard base, and with the announced replenishment, there should be more to come here. However, I would be very careful, especially above the tree line.
