Snow condition
The snow conditions are still very good for the time of year. Here in Damüls it must have snowed quite a bit in the last few weeks. If it stayed cold for longer, the season could certainly be extended here. In places, the snow cover is still closed up to 1400m
Snow quality
Due to the massive warming, especially from midday onwards, the snow has slowed down considerably and the snow cover is completely soaked up to 2000m. Off-piste skiing at these altitudes is hardly worthwhile, slopes are still good, no stones, but hardly any progress on flat terrain.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Wet snow avalanches from steep slopes were very present, as well as cornice breaks and sliding snow snouts. There was also heavy deposition of Sahara dust on the snow cover
Overall impression
Beautiful last day in the Damüls ski area. The possibilities for off-piste skiing were limited due to the extremely high temperatures. The resulting miserable snow quality and depth of penetration in the off-piste terrain quickly brings you back to the piste. Nice slush here and in the morning even without a permanent handbrake through the snow. If anyone is still planning a tour, the photos may be helpful before the fresh snow arrives
