Snow condition
It somehow reaches as far as the trunk, but towards Grimmialp only on roads. We descended into the Fieldrich, where the going is good and fluffy, but tight, all the way to the parking lot. Meadow slopes below 1800m are unrideable in all expos.
Snow quality
Beautiful snow in the hollows and gullies. Also great to ski in the 1500-1800 range where there was no wind.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: low
Altitude: 2000 m – 2300 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
We didn't notice any danger signs on our tour. A few wind flags at the summit now and then. The northern slope on the Rauflihorn, which we wanted to tackle, was already so hard packed in the upper part that we refrained from doing so due to the quality of the snow rather than the danger. The drift snow in the east sector at the top was well bonded and still nice to ski. At around 2100 in the very steep section we spotted a very small skier's snowboard. I guess the dangers are manageable and you could tackle steep stories in the Bernese Oberland in the next few days.
Overall impression
Rauflihorn traverse from north to east. All in all, a very great ski tour! The Powder-Guide sunshine forecast yesterday was impressive. The coloring says: Männlifluh clouds, Rauflihorn sun. And that's exactly how it was, down to the meter, see pictures: View to the west and view to the east. Top!
